It is argued that sexism prevented generative action to grow the faith in the 1920s. The fellowship movement in the 1950s provided a paradigm shift for how to do church. This case study examines the importance of the fellowship strategy in supporting growth and strengthening women’s leadership to the point that a congregation could be sustained. This thesis makes the claim that the fellowship movement played a significant role in flattening the gender hierarchy, allowing for Unitarian Universalism to flourish in Lakeland. The fellowship movement was a successful growth strategy because of the presence of women. While continuing to engage congregants' minds, I hoped to use storytelling, graphic art, music, and dance to move beyond linear, traditional spiritual language or the regular passive forms of listening.  Creating a Mythos worhsip team to produce these interactive, experiential services monthly, I hoped to meet this objective in conjunction with lay leaders to present services in a truly shared ministry context.  The services were planned, presented and evaluated favorably by the team itself and by the congregation. The tool includes the ability to diagram and analyze the interaction of particular family systems within the congregation in relation to the congregational system as a whole.
