The Bachelor of Divinity degree was one of the most popular degrees for students at the Meadville Theological School (and later the Meadville Lombard Theological School) in the early-mid twentieth century. Most students earning such a degree submitted what they termed a "dissertation," although some called theirs a "thesis." Many were completed within a particular "Department" within the school: Church History, Homiletics, Ministry, New Testament, Parish Administration, Philosophy, Philosophy and Psychology of Religion, Practical Theology, Religious Education, Social Ethics, Systemic Theology, and Theology.
